What is SSIP?
SSIP stands for Safety Schemes in Procurement. It provides a recognised framework for assessing a contractor or supplier's health and safety arrangements at the pre-qualification stage.Rather than SSIP carrying out assessments itself, certification is achieved through an SSIP Member Scheme. Member schemes assess businesses against common SSIP Core Criteria, which are supported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).For contractors, SSIP certification can help demonstrate to clients and principal contractors that appropriate health and safety management arrangements are in place.
How do you achieve SSIP Certification?
1. Choose an SSIP Member Scheme
The first step is choosing the accreditation or assessment scheme that's right for your business.
You are generally free to choose an appropriate SSIP Member Scheme, although some clients may request a particular scheme.

2. Complete Your Application
You'll need to provide information about your business, the work you undertake and how you manage health and safety.
The exact requirements vary depending on the scheme and your business, but the assessment is designed to establish whether you meet the required SSIP Core Criteria.
3. Provide Your Evidence
This is often where businesses need the most support.
Your assessor may require evidence demonstrating how health and safety is actually managed within your business. Depending on your circumstances, this can include policies, procedures, risk assessments, training and competence information, accident records and other supporting documentation.
I can review what you already have, identify what's missing and prepare the additional documentation required for your application.
4. Assessment & Queries
Once submitted, your application and supporting evidence will be reviewed by the relevant scheme.
If the assessor requests further information, clarification or additional evidence, I can deal with the queries and make the necessary amendments on your behalf.
5. Achieve Certification
Once your application has successfully passed the assessment, you'll receive certification through your chosen SSIP Member Scheme.
Your approval can then be used to demonstrate that your business has successfully completed the relevant pre-qualification health and safety assessment.
