What is SafeContractor Accreditation?

SafeContractor is a recognised contractor accreditation scheme used by organisations across the UK to assess the health & safety and compliance arrangements of contractors and suppliers.

The accreditation helps businesses demonstrate that they have appropriate systems, policies and procedures in place to manage health & safety and meet recognised pre-qualification requirements.

For contractors, achieving SafeContractor accreditation can help demonstrate compliance to prospective clients, strengthen tender and supply chain applications and provide reassurance that your health & safety arrangements have been independently assessed.

What Does SafeContractor Assess?

The assessment looks at your business, the work you undertake and the arrangements you have in place to manage health & safety.

Depending on your trade, business size and activities, you may be asked to provide evidence including:

Health & Safety Policy
Your arrangements and responsibilities for managing health & safety.

Risk Assessments & Method Statements
Evidence showing how risks associated with your work are identified and controlled.

Training & Competence
Training records, qualifications, competency information and evidence relevant to the work you undertake.

Accident & Incident Management
Information relating to accidents, incidents, RIDDOR and the procedures you have in place for reporting and investigation.

COSHH
Assessments and arrangements for controlling hazardous substances used during your work.

Work Equipment
Evidence of appropriate inspection, maintenance and management of equipment.

Subcontractor Management
Where applicable, evidence showing how subcontractors are selected, assessed and monitored.

Additional Trade-Specific Evidence
Further documentation may be required depending on the activities your business carries out.

How Do You Achieve SafeContractor Accreditation?

1. Start Your SafeContractor Application

You'll provide information about your business, workforce and the type of work you undertake. This determines which questions and evidence requirements are relevant to your assessment.

2. Complete the Assessment

Your SafeContractor assessment will ask questions about how health & safety is managed within your business.

You'll need to provide suitable responses and supporting evidence demonstrating that your arrangements are actually in place.

3. Provide Your Evidence

This is often the most time-consuming part of the application.

I can review the documentation you already have, identify what's missing and prepare the additional policies, procedures, assessments and supporting documents required for your SafeContractor application.

4. Assessment & Queries

Once submitted, your application and supporting documentation will be reviewed by the SafeContractor assessment team.

If further information, clarification or additional evidence is requested, I can deal with the assessor queries and make the necessary amendments on your behalf.

5. Achieve SafeContractor Accreditation

Once the relevant assessment requirements have been successfully completed, your business can achieve SafeContractor accreditation.

You can then use your accreditation to demonstrate your health & safety credentials to clients, principal contractors and prospective buyers.
